The Pseudo-Kunoichi from Another World (Part 9): The Legend of the Cat-Girl Maid

As sunlight beamed through my window and woke me up, Nellie was still curled up and sleeping in my arms.

I was exhausted from all the work yesterday, so I just stared at her, watching the adorable way her ears flickered and her tail swayed. I gently touched the base of her ears and rubbed it with my fingers.

“Fuya-n…!” Nellie whimpered as her body swayed.

“Oh, slee-py head~,” I whisper. “Not getting up yet? If you don’t wake up, I’m going to tease you some more~.”

This time, I gently guide my other hand down Nellie’s back until I reach the base of her tail. I put three fingers on it and slowly caress up its length to the tip.

“Auuunn-n…”

Looking at Nellie’s expression, I could see that she was biting her lip as she resisted. But, she the truth was she’d already lost.

“This girl…” I mutter. “Did I go to bed with a Tanuki?1 This is your punishment for being such a naughty girl.”

Nom.

I gently bite one of Nellie’s ears.

“Hiuuuunnn…!” she squeals as her eyes fly open.

“Good mor-ning~” I hum.

“Haa… haahii..” Nellie whimpers.

“Were you pretending to be asleep this whole time~,” I said. “Want some more?”

“N-No!” Nellie squealed. “I’ll get up, it’s time to get up!”

“Is it?” I ask as I gently stroke her chin with my index finger.

“Ha… hafun-n…”

“I gotta be honest…” I mutter, “seeing you like this…”

I hit her with a double-whammy of a tail stroke and an ear bite!

“Aaaahhhh…!” Nellie squeals. “Enough, enough…!”

I decided I’d had enough of teasing Nellie and stopped.

“Please forgive me…” Nellie whimpered. “La… Lady Shino’s fingers felt so good! I’ll confess I was pretending to be asleep…!”

“Yes, good job~,” I said as I gave Nellie a quick kiss before lifting her off of me.

Nellie is still breathless and trembling. “Aah… aah… I’ve just been kissed!”

“Hahaha, nothing compares to other girls!” I said.

As she couldn’t move much, I undressed Nellie, wiped off her sweat with a towel, and put her into her ninja armour.

“Unnn… I’m using Lady Shino’s amazing armour again…” Nellie muttered.

“I don’t mind,” I said. “Let’s go have breakfast and then we’ll go change your class today.”

“L-Let’s…”

Breakfast service at the inn was over by the time Nellie could move again, so we got some skewers at some food stalls then headed for the guild. However, even with our daily visits ever since arriving in this town…

“Good morning~!” I called out.

… I didn’t know which window processed class changes, so I went to Michaela at the quest counter.

“Yes, Ms. Shino, good morning!” Michaela said.

“I’d like to ask about performing a class change today,” I said.

“For you?”

“No, for her,” I said, gesturing to Nellie.

“Ah, Nellie,” Michaela said. “I did notice you’ve reached level 15 last night. Please, proceed through that door at the back then to the room at the end of the hall.”

“Thank you,” I said. “Well, let’s go, Nellie.”

“Yes, Lady Shino!”

I opened the door at the end of the hall and found a room about 12 tatami mats in size with a magical circle about 3 meters in diameter. I also noticed that bookshelves lined the walls, so much so that you couldn’t see what was behind them.

“Welcome,” said an old man in glasses and a gray robe as he sat at the back of the room.

Since there was no one else here, I asked, “Pardon me for asking, but are you the one in case of class changes?”

“Hrm… that is why I’m here… but I don’t believe I can help you.”

“Excuse me?”

“I am unsure as to why, but I can sense multiple souls resonating within you…” the old man said. “It’s a sure bet that a class change will not succeed in such an unstable state.”

Even if he looks like just a regular old man, he seems to be a shockingly powerful Sage. My other characters are probably why he saw what he did.

“Ah, don’t worry, that’s not why I’m here,” I said. “I’d like to ask for a class change for this girl here.”

“Is that so?” the Sage says playfully. “I wanted to witness your class change, too.”

“Haha, maybe another time…” I say.

He seems friendly enough, but I’ve got more important things to do with my time.

“Hrm…” the Sage says as Nellie steps forward. “So then, young lady, can you tell me about your current class and your desired class?”

“Yes,” Nellie said. “My current class is a Miscellaneous Slave and my desired class is Maid.”

“Oh? A slave? … Ah, my apologies, I wasn’t expecting that. If you wish to change the class of a slave, I would have to get permission from her owner. Would that be a problem?”

“Yes, Lady Shino… my owner has already released me from her service,” Nellie said. “My current official status is now a Commoner. And these clothes are a wonderful gift from her.”

“I beg to differ…” the Sage said, shaking his head. “It’s a loss to the world that such a cute girl like yourself is dressed like trash. Don’t you agree?!” he cries, his eyes lighting up.

“Mmm, I agree,” I said. I had a strong sense that I could trust him.

“So then, may you please stand in the center of that magical circle?” the Sage said.

Nellie obeyed.

“Well then, let’s start with the preliminary check,” the Sage said as the outermost ring the circle lights up and rises. “Hmm, it seems that the prerequisites have been cleared… there is no issue changing class to Maid.”

Shoom… the magic circle’s light fades away.

“Are you really sure about this, Nellie?” I ask. “Do you really wish to change classes?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” Nellie said. “I want to be more useful to you, Lady Shino.”

Ugh, Cat-Girl Maid Cuteness~. I feel guilty for recommending the class to her in the first place.

“Hrm, let us begin!” the Sage cries.

This time, a much more powerful light fills the magic circle.

“Ah…!” Nellie gasps.

“Don’t move!” the Sage snapped. “Even if you have changed your mind, don’t you dare step out of the magic circle!”

Nellie stood still as a statue after that.

“Retrieve class information: ‘Maid’,” the Sage says. A book flies off a shelf and into his hand.

“Hrm… now then… dedicate space in memories… transfer basic class information… transfer skill information… basic skill optimization starting…”

“Uuuu-uu…!”

I can’t see well for the light but I can hear Nellie’s pained moans. I changed my class so seamlessly and painfully, why was it so painful for her?

“Now! This is the end! Save Changes!”

The light of the magic ring intensified once more but quickly faded away; soon, I saw Nellie safe in the center.

“Are you done?” I asked the Sage.

“Hrm, it’s safe to step out of the magic circle now… but oh?”

“Is something the matter?!” I ask.

“No, no, it’s not a negative anomaly; I’ve also rewritten her guild card, so please check it at your soonest convenience.”

As I pondered the Sage’s words, I picked up the half-conscious Nellie from the magic circle. “Are you okay, Nellie?” I asked.

“… Oh… Lady… Shino…” Nellie whispered.

I cradled Nellie in my arms.

“Something… fluffy and warm…” Nellie continued to mutter. “Lady Shino, it felt like when you were holding me while I was asleep…” Nellie muttered.

“Tsch…!”

“Hoho, I see that’s how it is with you two…” the Sage said, looking at us with a grin.

“This is different!” I sputter. “That is just…”

“Hrm, hrm, yes, quite beautiful. Such are the pleasures of youth.”

“So you’re…”

“Fret not, I won’t tell anyone,” he said with a warm look in his eyes.

“Well then… Mister, do you have a sofa or something?” I asked. “I don’t think she’ll be getting up for a while.”

“Hrm, yes, there’s a sitting room next door. You can just lay her on the sofa… I’ll make us tea, too!”

The Sage guided us to the room, I laid Nellie down on her back, and soon the two of us were sitting at the table. “So then, this is green tea from the Eastern continent,” he said as he poured me a cup “A familiar flavour, yes?”

Eh, green tea? How is he so familiar with green tea…

“There are a lot of black-haired and ivory-skinned people from Eastern countries…” the Sage continued. “I was wondering which tea should I use, don’t you know?”

… I now realize I can’t drop my guard around him. Did he decide to use Japanese green tea just from looking at me…?

“… Lady… Shino?” Nellie muttered as she pushed herself up from the sofa.

“Nellie, are you feeling better now?” I asked as I head over to her.

“Yes, sorry for worrying you,” Nellie said. “I feel fine now.”

“Well then, it seems the class change was completed successfully,” the Sage said. “Let’s check your card.”

“Let’s,” Nellie said as she activated her card. But, we can’t believe what we’re seeing.

“Lady… Shino…”

“Hmm?”

“My class is ‘Luminous Maid’…”

“Yes…?”

“Hoho, so you did become a Luminous Maid…” the Sage said, his eyes bright. “It’s quite a rarity among the rare classes.”

“Nellie…” I mutter, “can you show me your card?”

“Yes, right away, Lady Shino,” Nellie said.

I checked the menu before me.

“Hmm… your stats have gone up across the board,” the Sage said. “You’ve gained +20 Light attribute. You have [Household Tools Mastery] as befitting your Maid class, but you are most certainly a Luminous Maid.”

I look to the Sage and urge him to explain.

“Hrm, let me explain it fully… a Luminous Maid specializes in the Light attribute. They are created from having extremely large amounts of magic power during the class change and as I mentioned are very, very rare.”

“Do they have any disadvantages compared to regular Maids?”

“Hrrm, you can say that they’re a superior class of maid, really,” the Sage replied. “You should see a lot of skills with light attributes… nay, maybe even skills that have not yet been seen before.”

“… Are Luminous Maids that rare?” I asked.

“Well, you see there aren’t many who wish to become a maid…” the Sage said. “Why become one when even commoners have an abundance of options when they register at a guild.”

“… I see, so it’s a class you don’t see that often, even if you had the opportunity to.”

I thought things had gone horribly wrong earlier… I’m so relieved. I sat down next to Nellie and stroked her head. “Thank you for going through this,” I said, “you seem to have become a rare class among rare classes, a Luminous Maid.”

“It’s all thanks to you, Lady Shino…” Nellie muttered. “If your blessing hadn’t raised my magical power so much…”

“It wasn’t like that, it just happened to work well with the light attribute you already had…” I said as I stroked her ears.

“This again…” Nellie whimpered.

“Something wrong?” I asked.

“Please stop stroking my ears…” Nellie whined. “I-I promise I’ll behave!”

Well, it seems I was either overdoing it or Nellie’s ears are becoming more and more sensitive.

I’m not being cruel. Probably.

“Hohoho… what a wonderful sight, what a wonderful sight,” the Sage said.

Oops, I forgot all about him. “Sorry, I’m so sorry,” I said. “Here, the fee of one silver coin.”

“Hrm, your debt has been settled,” the Sage said. “You both seem in good health… I look forward to seeing you again.”

I left the guild with my Nellie in tow. “Now, clothes, a clothing store…” I muttered. “Is there a luxury clothing store nearby?”

“If that’s what you’re looking for, we should take a right on this street,” Nellie said. “Minister Regalia is there.”

“And you’re sure it’s a luxury clothing store?”

“Yes.”

“Right then, let’s go.”

“Good day!” I said as I stepped into a brightly illuminated store (magically or not), luxurious, high-quality dresses and suits lined up around me.

“Welcome, dear customer,” said a maroon-haired woman in her early thirties as she emerged from the back of the store. “Thank you for visiting Minister Regalia. Are you browsing or would you like something tailored for you today?”

“Oh, no, neither…” I said. “Do you sell maid’s clothes?”

“But of course!” the clerk said. “We have all manner of garb fitting the maids of a noble’s residence.”

So far so good, right?

“I should mention it’s for this young lady,” I said as I gestured to Nellie. “She’s an Adventure’s Guild maid, but I was hoping you would be able to get her something regardless.”

“Oh, we certainly can! But, they will not be the same as for a house maid’s…”

“Aah, in that case, please give me whatever are your bestsellers!”

“Understood. Now then…”

We got the classic maid outfit with a long dark blue skirt. The frills on the apron are not too loud, very elegant, and practical. Additionally, the headdresses and shoes come as part of the set. “I’d like this design, two sets,” I said. “Also, please give me five sets of underwear, for myself and her also.”

“Understood, you’ve made a wonderful decision,” the clerk said. “Now, if you will please let me measure you both… and done, please wait a moment.”

Back in Sengoku Online, there was no such thing as women’s underwear. Even if there was, it would be “waist-wraps”, a far cry from modern designs.

“Apologies for the wait, dear customer, here is your order,” the clerk said as she returned.

The underwear felt just as amazing as the clothes, soft and smooth like silk. “Thank you, much did this all cost?” Nellie said.

“Right, hold on… 20 silver coins, so about 2000 kran.”

Well, I suppose women’s clothing costs a pretty penny anywhere you go… it’s a good thing my pockets are overflowing.

“Here, the payment,” I said as I quickly took the money out of my satchel instead of my inventory’s “purse”.

“Um, Lady Shino, please let me pay for it instead…” Nellie said.

“It’s fine, I’ll be wearing half of it anyway,” I said.

“Thank you for your patronage, we look forward to seeing you again,” the clerk said as we left Minister Regalia. We went around the other stories for other daily necessities until we noticed it was already lunchtime.

“Hey, why don’t we go back to the inn and order something?” I asked. (Fortunately, there is a custom of three meals a day, just like it was on earth, so you could order lunch on the first floor.)

“Sure, Lady Shino!” Nellie said.

As we walked, I wondered if Nellie was happy to be the only one wearing such cute, frilly clothes, since I’d been carrying my set near my chest.

“Mmm, the food was so good today!” I said. “I didn’t think there would even be sashimi , port town or no.”

Unsurprisingly, there was no soy sauce, but there was a seasoning similar to yuzu pepper that was just as delicious. It’s not as high-quality as the one I had in the suite, but it’s a large enough serving, and above all, I get to give Nellie two servings.

“Yes… fish… so good…” Nellie mumbled. She seems to have gone into a minor food coma, probably a consequence of her terrible diet before she met me. Goodness, she was so cute.

“Nellie, are you okay?” I asked. “If you need to rest, let’s go back to our room. I have a little something I need to do there, anyway.”

I helped the still-out-of-it Nellie back to our room on the second floor, setting our purchases down on the bed as soon she was taken care of. I took out one of the two maid outfits and started making cuts with a pair of scissors…

“Oh, um… Lady Shino? What are you doing?”

“Hmm, I thought I’d like to wear one.”

“But why are you tearing it up like this?”

“Well, I suppose I’m really just using it instead of a paper pattern…”

Nellie looked at me in confusion; this expression was also extremely cute and good.

“Behold, the final stage of the ‘Cat-Girl Maid’ Project: creating battle maid clothes!” I said.

“You… you can make clothes…”

“Wait and see,” I said.

There is no crafting-only or combat-only class in Sengoku Online, you were only limited to your tactical options in battle and what you could create. Before you ask, my four crafting specialties are:

  • Kunoichi (Female Ninja): Cloth Armor and Ninja Tools
  • Onmyoji (Diviner): Magical Tools and Summons
  • Blacksmith: Metal Weapons and Armour
  • Apothecary: Medicines and Charms

And there are also various “goods” that were used as materials. Originally, you needed a “pattern” to make cloth armor, but I’ll just use an actual item as a base. “Oh, best change my skill set before I ruin something… skill set: [Crafting].

[Dexterity +] [Success Rate +] [Advanced Sewing] [Cloth Armour Creation] [Weight Limit +] [Enchantment +] [Physical Ability +] [Proc. Rate +] [Advanced Fashion Sense] [Calm Mind]

I set to work at once. As expected, [Advanced Sewing] and [Dexterity +] let me disassemble the dress in no time. I laid out the pieces on the floor in the order they would be in back in the game. I took out extra materials from my inventory, pictured the finished product in my head, and used [Cloth Armour Creation].

My hands moved like a machine, a blur as they stitched, cut, and put the pieces together. High-Quality Cotton and Kneaded Silk as a base, reinforce critical areas with tiger’s fur and dragon scales. In the game, Maids could also use leather armour, but that material will keep this from passing as regular maid’s clothes! Also, I cut the skirt shorter under the knees for combat purposes.

“Hmm, could I use this instead…?” I thought as I worked.

Instead of using gemstones or minerals, which are called “Enchant Materials”, I substituted the Death Mantis magic gem. “Oh, it seems to be working work just fine…” I said as the crystal broke in my hand, the air around it glowed with magic before it was absorbed into the fabric.

Next, I added a magical dye made while I was using my apothecary, dyed it the usual black of maid’s uniforms. I wanted to decorate the chest with a large jewel, but… “Hmm, a diamond seems to be a bit too garish.” So instead, a used another light attribute gem, “Blue Moonstone”.

“Alright! It’s finally done!’

It doesn’t seem that impressive and there’s little room for improvement, however…

“For the time being, the base material is Kneaded Silk… the cloth sections are High-Quality cotton… the stitches use Guardian Spider threads for reinforcement… I want to add anti-magic performance, so better crush some obsidian, pour it into the headdress, and…hmm, I think it’s completed for the time being?

“Good job, me~,” I said as I wiped the sweat off my forehead.

I noticed that the Nellie was a little too calm and quiet. “Something the matter, Nellie?”

“La-La-La-Lady Shino…”

“Yes…?”

“How much did this all cost…?!”

“How much… oh, right.” I couldn’t just compare it to the economy back in Sengoku Online… but wait, the price of the most basic player housing is about the same. “I guess you could trade this for a small house?” I said.

“…”

… Nellie has fainted.

One hour later, Nellie finally came to. After much reasoning that it was going to be necessary for her to use it for future battles and my sake also, I finally convinced her to put them on.

I should mention that stricter limitations are a trade-off to improve stats and add additional effects. Thanks to that, Nellie is the only one who can use this set–and is now also the first beast-man Maid I’ve ever seen.

Well, with all of that way: ‘Cat-Girl Maid’ Project is a complete success! Applause, applause!

“Yes, yes, you’re so cute, Nellie!” I squeal.

 “T-Thank you, Lady Shino…”

My face was pale and I was out of breath from all the work, but I didn’t mind. I was lucky enough to get a maid of my own, after all.
