The Small-Town Girl Becomes the Demon King (EP 45): It’s a massive emergency

You don’t have to hunt them just because they’re monsters, right?

The horde of injured monsters was endless.

The soldiers and the Guild staff had the luxury of supplies from the castle but there weren’t enough heads in the city.

“This isn’t a drill!” they yelled.

Merle pondered the situation with a hand on her chin, several residents rushed up to her.

“Your Majesty! Please hear out our request!”

“What is it?” Merle asked. “I’m busy right now.”

“Are they panicked by the situation? Please tell me that later. I mean, read the air,” Merle thought of saying before she decided to shut up, it would only add to the stress.

“Please let us citizens help,” one of them said. “We only know how basic skills but I think we can help with the minor injuries.”

Merle didn’t know how to react at that. “Aren’t you all scared of the monsters?”

“What are you saying, Your Majesty? Every day, we see you, Succubus, and Slime; I don’t think we can be terrified of monsters anymore.”

“We’ve got nothing against the demons and monsters, honestly. It seems like there’s little difference between us nowadays.”

“Seriously?” Merle thinks, slack-jawed. “That sounds like a good idea,” she says. “You have my permission to treat the monsters.”

“Savior Demon King!”

Most of the citizens started running around the streets. The monsters that had rushed in were calm but many larger monsters couldn’t be treated by just one person. Additionally, the tools were all human-sized; anything larger and they had to start pulling out carpets and bedrolls instead of bandages.

Some monsters could speak human languages, humanoids like goblins and harpies. They were surprised that humans would treat them but let them be.

“Aren’t you scared of us?” a goblin asked as a human bandaged the cut on his leg.

The man smiled and laughed. “Goblins aren’t scary! I see the Demon King every day, don’t I?”

“Is that the only reason?”

“If you want a reason, I’ll give you as many as you like but I don’t have much time to talk now,” the man said as he put his tools back in a basket. “There’s still a lot of you who still need tending to. Sorry, I’m off!”

The monsters had come here to seek aid from the Demon King, like this goblin. They had thought the city would be full of demons and monsters but was full of humans instead. Despite the confusion, they had come in like a horde and couldn’t turn back.

But then the soldiers with medical tools appeared to treat their wounds, followed by the citizens. They were enemies, they should have been on opposite sides, yet they were being helped.

It shook the goblins to their cores.
