The Small-Town Girl Becomes the Demon King (EP 38): Finally, people are joining our party!

“Defeat the Demon King?! Do you think I’m an idiot?!” another applicant said as they left the tavern.

They were the fifth one. Every time they mentioned they were going to defeat the Demon King, they left the tavern, and the quest notice as well. Some of them yelled like the one just now, some even swore at the Heroes for their goal.

Thanks to the rumors that begun floating around about the party, any curious individuals began avoiding them.

“Tch!” an applicant spat on the side of the road. “Why would you want to go back to the way the world was!?”

A small man passes him by, a dwarf with a large helmet on his head and a massive ax on his back. He knocked on the tavern door, gave a side glance at the man who just

left.

“I heard there’s a quest to slay monsters,” the dwarf said. “Is the client here?”

“We’re recruiting volunteers to slay the Demon King,” Eliza said.

She cut straight to the point without offering him a seat, in case he left right away like the others. However, the dwarf didn’t leave and sat down with them at their table.

“So we’re slaying the Demon King?” he said. “I don’t know how strong she is but she’s not wanting for enemies.”

“Will you join us?”

“Depends on how much you’re willing to pay me.”

Eliza looked at Maria, who pulled out a heavy-duty coin purse from her cleavage. She placed it in front of the dwarf, loosened the drawstring, and revealed the gold coins inside.

“This is your advance, you’ll get double it on completion.”

“Fine with me,” the dwarf said as he closes the purse and grabs it, “I’ll take it.”

“What are your strengths?” Dorothy asked. “You look like a dwarven warrior but have you ever fought monsters before?”

The dwarf snorts and shows off the necklace hanging over his chest; it looked like black, polished monster claws. The Heroes realized that the thickness and sharpness were likely from a dragon than regular beasts.

“The name’s Hawkins, the dwarven warrior! Have I ever fought monsters before? I’ve killed even a dragon. This necklace is my loot from that hunt, proof of my victory.”

“A dragon..?! I don’t think you could have defeated it alone.”

“Don’t underestimate us dwarves. A dwarven warrior is worth 2 soldiers. I don’t want to offer any more evidence that I killed a dragon by my lonesome if you don’t believe me. If you do, we can start making plans here,” Hawkins said as he folded his arms over his chest and looked at Dorothy.

A dragon is a monster with great magical power. It’s common for a Guild’s or a King’s army to defeat them, so it takes considerable skill to defeat one alone.

This dwarf is boasting he’s done just that. His body was strong and muscular, and there were countless scars all over his body from so many battles. His giant ax was old, but the blades are polished and shining, its handle has absorbed so much sweat and oil it’s turned a dark brown, it was worn from being wielded for so many years.

“I believe you,” Dorothy said. “You said your name was Hawkins? Welcome to our Hero Party…”

  1. I have this funny feeling like the formed demon king wasn’t bad guy at all, but the hero party only relate that after they killed so that is the reason for the saint to be secluded in a desert, because she feel guilty
