The Small-Town Girl Becomes The Demon King (EP 25): They’re definitely insane

Levantine shatters the ground without catching the man.

“Page, I’ll save you!”1

“Ramiel!”

The man is pulled back in an instant. Behind him is a blonde wizard in a brown robe, holding a staff in one hand and holding her hand out towards the man.

“Movement magic!” Merle cried, thrilled at the appearance of reinforcements.

The emotions of companions and opponents about to face defeat receiving help at the last minute, the desire to protect them no matter what.

Merle seems to melt, she’s so moved.

The swordsman, Page, and Ramiel, the witch, are standing before her. She’s certain they have a deep trust and a powerful bond. The two of them must have survived many battles together.

Merle’s imagination continues to run wild as she looks at them.

“You rescued me, Ramiel!” Page cries.

“Page, your opponent is the Demon King of Darkness!” Ramiel says. “I’ll strengthen you with light magic! Give it you’re all once you’ve received it!”

“Right!”

“Breath of the Earth, Shining Stars, Light of the Sun, light up the darkness!” Ramiel chants as she draws a magic circle in the air with her staff, a white, glowing aura surrounds Page’s body.

Combined with light magic, the flaming sword burns a divine golden hue.

A warrior bathed in Light.

“This is… the battle that I was looking for!” Merle said. “Darkness and Light collide! The duel between the Dark Demon King and the Warrior of Light!”

It’s terrible that you’re so pleased about this, this situation is horrendous! That witch is also quite powerful!”

“It doesn’t matter!”

That light magic has the power to weaken my darkness!”

“That’s what makes this so good!”

Both kicked off at the same time. Their blades clash and their faces are inches away from each other again.

A tremendous shockwave flies out as Merle’s dark Aura and Page’s light aura try to cancel each other out. Their all-consuming, all-destroying powers consume them both. On the side, Succubus desperately clings to a nearby pillar to keep from getting blown away.

“Demon King!” Succubus cries. “Kill him-!”

“Page! You can do it!”

Two swordsmen, two cheers. The two blades don’t budge an inch.

“I can’t lose to anyone!” Page cries. “I will not be defeated!”

“This is what a warrior is like!” Merle cries. “Oh, I want to know just how you got this resolve!”

Page roars.

Merle cries out as well.

The opposing forces explode. The two combatants are clouded in smoke, it spreads and engulfs the area. A pillar rises from the castle gate, the surrounding buildings and stone statues are shattered and crumbling to pieces.

With her face shielded, Succubus tries to look around. On the other side, Ramiel does the same, trying to find a trace of Page.

“Page! Are you alright?!” Ramiel says.

The smoke settles, Page is the only one left standing.

Merle crumples to the ground, vomiting blood and laying on her back.

“Page!”

“Your Majesty-yyy…!” Succubus wails as she hugs Merle, tears in her eyes.

“You were strong, Demon King, but… you weren’t a match for me…” Page says as his sword falls from his hand. With the Demon King laying on her back, he falls to the ground, wondering why it suddenly got so dark.

“Page?!”

“I’m the winner… I am Demon King Merle!” Merle said as she opened her eyes and stood up.

As she expected, the Demon King couldn’t be harmed at present. As she staggered and stood up, she saw the fallen Page and Ramiel, their weapons laying on the ground.

“Why do you do this, Demon King?” Ramiel shouted as she cradled Page’s head on her lap.

“Why?” Merle asks. “I should ask you as well: do you all kill demons just because they’re demons?”

“…”

“Did you think we wouldn’t get revenge? Do you think you’re in the right? I don’t want to be a tragic hero holding my fallen companions.”

“Your Majesty…” Succubus whispers, moved. She can’t lift her face as Merle leans over her.

“’Why do you do this?’ As if it isn’t obvious,” Merle said. “It’s to make a world where the demons can live in peace. It’s just the same as you.”

There were no more words; Merle had said all she wanted, Ramiel could say nothing in return.

1. Original name is more literally transliterated into “Phage” but I don’t think I want the heroic swordsman to bring to mind “bacteriophage”.
